Why Choose Sabre?

There are so many grappling clubs and BJJ academies around these days. Here’s why I think you should choose us!

S — Safe and Welcoming Space

We train on 80m² of mats in a well-equipped community centre, with all the facilities you’d expect. A qualified first aider is always on hand, and we pride ourselves on keeping training safe, supportive, and inclusive.

A — A Close-Knit Community

At Sabre, we’re more than training partners — we’re a team. Being a smaller club means you get more one-to-one attention, detailed feedback, and a chance to build genuine friendships on and off the mats. We celebrate individuality and diversity, and everyone has a place here.

B — Battle Tested

I’ve competed in gi, no-gi, and even in the cage. I’ve won some, I’ve lost some, but every match has given me valuable lessons I now share with my students. My teaching is grounded not just in theory, but in real experience on the mats.

R — Reality Focused

BJJ as a sport is fantastic for fitness, fun, and competition — but sport BJJ alone isn’t self-defence. At Sabre, we train both. I hold black belts in Jeet Kune Do, Kickboxing, and BJJ, and our curriculum emphasises techniques that are effective in sport and in real-world situations. Sure, we’ll enjoy the occasional rolling experiment, but our foundation is built on practical, reliable skills.

E — Exceptional Teaching

With nearly twenty years of experience as a professional teacher, I know how people learn. My approach is evidence-informed and research-driven, and I bring that same standard to my BJJ instruction. Whether you’re a complete beginner or looking to refine your game, I’ll make sure you learn effectively and enjoy the process.

Come roll with us! You won’t regret it!
