Olly, Scaffolding Business Owner -
“As a lifelong scaff, I’ve always been used to working hard and staying physically active, but it wasn’t until I started training at Sabre Grappling a year ago that I truly experienced a different level of discipline and fitness. The environment at Sabre is unlike any other gym I’ve been to. From day one, Matt and my teammates made me feel like part of a family, always pushing me to do my best while also keeping things supportive and welcoming.
What stands out the most is how Matt balances technique with real-world application. The skills I’ve learned here have not only improved my overall fitness and mental toughness but have also translated into my work as a business owner = whether it’s staying focused under pressure, problem-solving on the fly, or being able to push through tough situations.
Competing for Sabre Grappling was an experience that I’ll never forget. The level of preparation and coaching I received leading up to the competition gave me confidence, and when I stepped onto the mat, I knew I was ready. The competition itself pushed me in ways I never imagined, and it was rewarding to see how much I’d grown with just short time training.
If you're looking for a place where you can grow, both physically and mentally, I can't recommend Sabre Grappling enough. Whether you're just starting out or looking to compete, Sabre is where you'll find the support and expertise to take your training to the next level.”
Alex, IT Technician -
“I’ve been at Sabre since the beginning and I love it.
Matt’s an excellent teacher, clearly explaining techniques but with a clear understanding of how & why you’d carry them out in exact, practical scenarios so it doesn’t feel like drilling for drilling’s sake.
The team are also a great bunch to roll with, there’s a real mix of skill, size & experience between everyone so there’s always different outcomes when sparring.
I’ve learned so much in the year and a half or so that I’ve been training, and I think a large proportion of that can be put down to the personal, welcoming environment at Sabre.”
Rob, Security Consultant -
“After a three-year lay-off from grappling, I was apprehensive about getting back into training. Joining Sabre Grappling turned out to be the best decision I could have made.
My development has been rapid, thanks to Matt’s methodical teaching style, which allows me to retain information like never before. The atmosphere is welcoming and supportive, with like-minded people from all walks of life who push each other to improve.
Training at Sabre not only keeps me sharp but also provides the perfect way to blow off steam from my demanding job. I couldn’t recommend it more highly.”
Danny, Groundworker -
“My names Danny, I’m 41, and work in the groundwork/landscape industry.
I’ve always been into combat sports and was looking for the right club to join, I heard about Sabre via Instagram and was happy to learn that an old friend of mine from high school was the Head Instructor and so I reached out to join.
Since joining I felt welcomed and part of the family straight away. The only regret I have is that I didn’t join sooner.”
