On 24th October 26, Matt and a small band of Sabre supporters travelled to Brighton for Matt’s match on the Final Kumite 6 show.
The whole show was a lot of fun, with two open weight tournaments at white belt and blue belt. For these matches, gi or NoGi was decided by a coin toss before the match: Very unusual and it added to the fun!
There were several black belt superfights in gi and NoGi (no coin toss for these, though) and there was some excellent grappling on show. The Final Kumite tournament really does attract an appreciative and supportive crowd.
Matt fought Tobias Thiago Huber, an experienced MMA fighter and BJJ black belt, who flew over from Germany for the show. In a gruelling match, with a lot of handfighting and wrestling, Matt survived a very tight guillotine before fighting back with submission attempts of his own.
In this sub-only match, the judges called it a draw.
