Victory for Matt at Grapple Worlds

Sabre’s instructor, Matt MacGuire, took on his toughest opponent yet on the first Grapple Worlds show on May 28th, and he came away with what commentators at Kassam Stadium described as a dominant victory.

Matt’s opponent, Manu Perez, is the head instructor at the globally renowned 10th Planet Barcelona. Perez has won high level grappling matches on prestigious shows, including Polaris, and Matt was considered the underdog going into this match.

However, Matt had prepared well for the aggressive leg locker’s game and he dominated with upper body control, a powerful mount and several convincing and dangerous submission attempts: guillotines, toeholds and a diving kimura. This was more than enough to secure the judges’ decision at the end of the match, as one of Grapple World’s commentators declared “No doubt about it”.
