Matt’s win at UMMA, coventry

Sabre’s instructor, Matt MacGuire, climbed back into the cage for the first time in years to compete in an 8 man submission only tournament at -80kg.

Matt won his first match quickly and comfortably, finishing the fight with the Howdy Choke he learnt from his nogi instructor, Daniel Strauss (The Raspberry Ape).

In the semi-final, Matt traded confidently in an exciting and even match until the final minute. He didn’t take the win but had a great match against an athletic and prolific young competitor.

Matt has always been both an active competitor and an instructor. His latest outing showed he can still keep up with and submit the youngsters in grappling!
